Lexi’s 6th birthday party was a blast this year. It was our favorite party for her so far, for both her and I, and I think a lot of that had to do with the fact that it was just so simple. There were no crazy decorations to create and put up, no fancy foods that had to be cut into intricate shapes, and no insanely planned activities for the kids to pretend to enjoy. Instead we had a simple affair with a pool, pizza, cake, and art activities and favors from OOLY.
Every year I try to have a sponsor help with the activities and favors for Lexi’s birthdays. This way I can support a company I truly love while showing other people, in real tangible ways, why I love them. Lexi loves art and she loves creating new things, so OOLY was an obvious choice for us this year. I have featured them several times before but it’s because I simply love the products they create for kids. They are so kid-friendly, fun, bright, and creative that every child loves them.
I had some art party ideas floating around in my head as we started to get things rolling for Lexi’s birthday. Like I said, she loves art so this is always a great theme to work with for a birthday party. Plus it doesn’t involve loads of sugar like a piñata or goody bags filled with candy so that is always a win in our books since we always try to air on the side of healthy (and I’m sure in the books of the parents of the kids attending!). I also like to enforce the creative side of Lexi’s mind, so with some art party ideas in mind we set out to find some fun activities and favors for the friends attending her birthday party.
For the activity of the day (besides playing in the pool, the sand, and just generally having fun with friends) we got these fun 3D Colorables from OOLY. These colorable kits come in all different shapes like wings, tiaras, and guitars, and can be blown up to use as role play props when kids are done decorating.

One of the biggest hits of the party though were the goody bags that we filled with items from OOLY. Instead of doing candy or little useless toys that you end up throwing away in secret two weeks later, we decided to switch it up in terms of art party ideas by using arts and crafts tools. This way kids can go home and actually creatively use what was in their party favor bag instead of chowing down on red dye-40 or leaving mini toys for you to step on in the middle of the night.
Each child attending the party got one of OOLY’s exclusive pencil pouches to hold all their art goodies. Bright and colorful, these bags appealed to both the boys and girls in attendance at Lexi’s party, and held together all of their new supplies in a way that is much cuter than the typical plastic baggies that kids normally get at parties.
Each bag was filled with a different combination of things from OOLY. When looking at art party ideas online, most of goody bags would be filled with generic crayons or markers, and maybe a small notebook. The cool thing about OOLY is that their markers aren’t just crayons or just markers- they might be shaped like little hearts that connect to each other or be scented with little monster faces on the caps.
Their erasers are shaped like donuts or popsicles, and their notebooks are cute, bright, and silly. Each and every single one of the products from OOLY is fun and designed with kids in mind. They brightened up and livened up the typical art party ideas you might see on Pinterest to make Lexi’s birthday party favors more fun for the kids that came out to celebrate.
Here is what was in our party favor bags:
- Exclusive OOLY pencil pouch
- Heart Stacking Crayons
- Scented Monster Markers
- Dainty Donuts Pencil Erasers
- Icy Pops Scented Puzzle Erasers
- Pocket Pal Journals- Monster Tales
- Pocket Pal Journals- Unique Unicorns
We had such a great time at Lexi’s colorful pool party for her 6th birthday. Although Pinterest is filled with some amazing art party ideas, we think that taking it simple with a few planned activities, pizza, cake, general play time for the kids, and amazing birthday party favors from OOLY was the way to go. It was a blast and I can safely say that both kids and parents enjoyed the favors for long after the party was over.
