JULES et JIM Maternity

“Jules likes seeing his pregnant wife sexy. Jim prefers the classic, refined look.
Together Jules & Jim make up a line of maternity clothing in tune with new trends, at once comfortable and urbane”

With the Holidays approaching, I can see thousands of pregnant women in America scrambling trying to find an appropriate and hot Christmas or New Year’s outfit.
My party outfit came from Jim et Jules maternity.
I am a sucker for anything sparkly when it comes to party dresses, so I was very excited to receive this dress.

When I first tried it on, before I even had a chance to look in the mirror, I showed it to my husband and he LOVED IT! He adores  when I wear sexy sparkly dresses more than me, and I am sure the last nine months of yoga pants and t-shirts left him longing for his old “glamorous” Elena.
I was a bit conscious about showing this much leg, considering my legs aren’t the same size they used to be, but I think the loose top (plus heels) balanced it out and made my legs appear much skinnier than  they are ( seriously, I feel my legs look MUCH bigger in real life- I don’t know what happened in some of these pictures, so I’m assuming it’s the dress)

I also loved the back of the dress – so elegant- made me feel less like a big pregnant woman, and more like a a pre-pregnancy me who’d would wear draped backs and sparkly dresses and jeweled heels- aaahhhhhh!!!!!
The other part of the outfit was the cardigan, which is totally appropriate for a winter party ( even though we live in Florida) and I have found fits pretty much any other dress I own. I ended up wearing a blue dress to dinner, with the cardigan  that dressed it up so well!
That would be a good idea for a party, if you want to wear a dress you already own.

  1. They have such cute stuff! I’m having a hard time picking which I love most! You look great too by the way, even if you don’t think so! ; )

  2. Um I’m assuming you can’t bend over/sit/do much of anything unless you want the world to see your hoo haa. Seriously I’m surprised you can’t see butt cheek hanging out! The last time I wore something that short I was 19 on Spring Break in Acapulco (and it had built in shorts). I can’t imagine EVER wearing that pregnant with #2 at 31.

    • You definitely can’t bend over, so if you already have kids and taking them to a party, that dress is definitely out- you can’t be chasing kids in it( or in heels for that matter). But you can sit and do other normal things without anything showing. Also don’t forget I’m 5’11”, so I have long torso (the dress will fit longer on a shorter girl) AND since I have long legs dresses/skirts/shorts “appear shorter” than in real life- that’s why you can’t see a butt cheek hanging out.
I remember when I was in school we had a uniform, with skirts the exact same length and my home room teacher kept thinking that I had shortened my skirt (and complaining to my parents lol), because you could see so much more leg than in other girls lol
My mom even had to have a meeting with her to tell her that she needs to stop commenting in my skirt length because it’s the standard approved length.
So kind of the same thing here.

That being said, during pregnancy depending on how confident (or self conscious) I’m feeling at the moment I would possibly wear it with tights.

    • I mean this, as a commenter once said on your page, in “the nicest way possible”, but i ABSOLUTELY agree w/ Chris. I wouldn’t be caught DEAD in that dress w/ out leggings or even super thick tights (maybe a black, wide-leg silk (or whatever blend the dress is) trouser style pant would be gorgeous!). I honestly don’t believe, being so far along in your pregnancy, that dress would be the least bit comfortable to wear out for a night to a party WITHOUT anything on the legs. Maybe i perceive fashion differently, but looking classy, elegant, sexy & fashionable at 30+ weeks pregnant – for ME, is NOT a super short dress, with heels, that i have to worry about bending over, even a simple bend to pick up a dish of food, etc.

Maybe this is a comment & opinion directed more towards the company.

I have visited your blog every now & again…. and all i can say to you is GOOD LUCK. From your choice in clothing to your birth plan…. it may look good in print, but the reality is, it always, ALWAYS is not what you expect. Cheers!

      • Actually, the company’s shot of this dress has the model wearing greyish tights but to be honest, while tights with the dress look good, they would be completely out of place in Florida. They would also necessitate closed toe shoes- again out of place in Florida.

I think I said it in a comment somewhere here but I think you overestimate how short the dress really is. Our eyes see what they are used to seeing and in a girl standard height this much leg would mean her coochie must be almost showing. For a 5’11” girl there’s a lot more to go. So in reality the dress has good 5 or more inches under my butt which is perfectly fine when doing all party related things but of course won’t work if you’re chasing another kid around (neither would heels).
For me, party dresses have nothing to do with comfort, pregnant or not. If I wanted to be comfortable, I’d wear sweatpants, not heels and a sequin dress (tights or not). Which is what I’m tempted to wear most of the time right now, but NOT if I’m going to a party (unless it’s a super laid back home party where I could pull of smth more casual than a party dress)

  3. Um, you don’t even look pregnant from behind! Simply gorgeous! What a great dress for the holidays, pregnant or not 🙂
