I feel this blog doesn’t get enough photography, which is understandable, since this is a pregnancy blog ( for now).
But I am and always have been obsessed with photos and if I didn’t have a dedicated photo blog, you’d see an overwhelming amount of photos here.
Sometimes, though, I feel that this blog doesn’t get enough prettiness. I personally like reading blogs with photos, or some illustrations, even if it’s a bit unrelated- I’m a very visual person. Once there is an actual baby to photograph, you’ll see a lot of goodness here, but right now the weekly belly photos are the only thing that makes sense.
So maybe I’ll be adding just a few photos to some posts, random ones…
And right now I wanted to share this photo ( as I am editing our Universal photos that I posted here and will be posting more a bit later as well)
Also, Jessica from Welch Grape Juice blog asked me to post this question, since many of you seem to be knowledgable and experienced about all things baby.
What are some really fun ways of telling family about your pregnancy?
Personal experiences? Things you always wanted to do- every answer is welcome!
And maybe I’ll use those for our next baby…
We were so excited when we found out I was pregnant that we didn’t think of any creative ways.
However, when we found out the gender, we went all out to share it with my parents. We went to the Hallmark store and bought a little blue “pin” that said BOY on it, put it in a little box that looked like a toy wooden block, put THAT in a huge cardboard box, threw in a bunch of pink and blue tissue paper to throw them off, and wrapped the cardboard box in colorful wrapping paper. 🙂 We got their reaction on video, and it’s something I love to look at every once and a while. 🙂
That’s so much fun! Both our parents live sooo far away we didn’t even have an option of doing smth cute… 🙁
We just moved to a new town and all family is out of town now. In a few weeks my mom will be visiting and we are telling her first. At the next ultrasound I am going to ask if the technician can make extra copies of the picture. I am going to put the picture in an envelope within a mushy card and give that to her when she’s here.
It’s not that elaborate but I want to tell her in person and not over the phone.. In the meantime it is do hard not to let it slip!! How are you going to tell family??
We knew we were pregnant 5 days after conception and we told our family right away. Everyone knew we were going to TTC that month so there was no point in making a big deal out of it.
I didnt have any creative ways with #1 but with #2 I ordered an “Im going to be a big brother” t-shirt for my son (while it killed me, I kept it a secret from even my husband until I got the t-shirt) told him that way. I also had my son wear the shirt to my parents house and thats how we told them.
I took a picture of him in the shirt and mailed it to my husbands mom (she lives in another state) and told her to call me before she opened the envelope.
We knew we were pregnant and just called to all your friends and family. Your baby girl is here now, she’s an adorable 17 days old.
Anyway .. what a cute blog you have,i’m new on this “family blog thing” but i’ll follow you for sure!
For my son, we were going to my parent’s house to celebrate my dad’s birthday. We got him a little onsie and had him open it as soon as we got there. It took him and my mom a minute to figure it out but they were so excited. For this baby, we sent everyone an email with a picture of my son wearing his big brother t-shirt. We actually ended up calling almost everyone to make them check their email though. ; )
For my sister and parents and in-laws, we didn’t do anything elaborate. But, for extended family, an uncle and aunt who were like a second set of parents, I sent their sons t-shirts that said something like “Kiss me, I am an uncle” and to my grandma, a teacup that said “I’m a great-grandma.” They were on Skype when they opened the gifts and they took a few minutes and then everyone screamed! It was awesome.
We still haven’t made any general annoucements (I’m only 9 weeks, we’d like to wait until at least week 13 or 14) but we have told close family. However, it didn’t go as I planned…. before we got pregnant, we had already planned a trip to visit my parents. When we found out we were pregnant, we figured we could tell them on the trip. However, starting the day after I found out I was pregnant, I have been having spotting and bleeding. I’ve spent the past 5 weeks alternating between “modified bedrest” (I can get up to shower and go to the bathroom) and “pelvic rest” (just avoid exercise, sex, and lifting heavy objects), lots of doctor appointments, missing work, all sorts of craziness…. So we had to call my parents and tell them we were unable to visit them. We didn’t want to lie so we told them we had “good news and bad news”…. good news was we’re pregnant (first grandbaby for them!), bad news is I’ve been having some issues and can’t come visit! We also told DH’s parents the same thing, since my parents knew.
The good news is that every ultrasound (all 4 of them!) has looked good so far. The doctor said sometimes women just bleed while pregnant, and they don’t always know why. But my doctor is still watching me very closely just in case. So we’ve also told our grandparents and siblings (without telling them about the bleeding so they won’t worry) but did ask them to keep it a secret until we make general announcements after the first trimester. DH’s brother did the same thing (told family early; everyone else later) even though they had a perfectly normal pregnancy, so our request was not unexpected 🙂
I spotted LITERALLY 1 spot after doing some exercise in the beginning of my pregnancy, which of course FREAKED us both out. After reading on babyandbump forums that it’s common, we calmed down but still had a u/s to make sure it was ok. So I bet you were going crazy. Everytime there’s a worry, we “put me on bed rest”, because that seems to be the solution to pretty much anything ( which makes me wonder if that’s not the best way to spend the whole pregnancy lol).
