I have been learning about this in the past month and have teamed up with IGS Energy to let me readers know how they can use it to their advantage.
There are expenses that you can predict pretty well every month and budget for those expenses. Unfortunately, some expenses aren’t quite so predictable like your electricity bill. It is so annoying how electricity expenses go up and down. And it’s not like you can shop around for your power. If you don’t like where you are grocery shopping, you go to a different grocery store.
I did just learn about something pretty cool though. In some states, you can shop around. You can have a choice about where you get your power from. You can use an independent energy supplier and take control of your utility bills. Here’s how it works:
- If you live in a state with deregulated utilities, you can buy your energy from an independent energy supplier.
- You still have a utility company, that you can’t choose. The utility company will still deliver electricity and natural gas to you. The utility company still maintains wires, poles, etc.
- The independent energy supplier delivers the natural gas and electric supply products to the utility company on your behalf though. So you can actually shop around for your electricity! When you use the utility company for supplier and delivery into your home, your bill is in a constant state of flux based on demand and market conditions. An independent energy supplier will allow you to set a fixed rate for a time period for your electricity and gas. Fixed rate = predictable expense for your budgeting purposes!
The largest independent supplier of natural gas and electricity in the country is IGS Energy (#IGSEnergy). IGS Energy has a lot to offer if you are considering switching to an independent energy supplier. They offer natural gas and electric supply products, high quality customer service, green energy products, and flat bill options that give you predictability and control in your monthly budget. If you live in a state where energy choice and deregulation is available and are ready to make the change to using an independent energy supplier, IGS makes it easy to enroll.
