The other day I decided that we needed to get out more on the weekends, rather than try to cram as much housework as we can, along with blog work, along with family time. I said “Pfftt! Housework! Who needs a clean and organized house anyways!?” (that’s my philosophy lol) “Let’s go to the lamest freaking bbq show in the worst part of town!”
Ok, I didn’t know it was going to be lame! Or that it’s in THAT part of town. Or that the “petting zoo for kids” meant a lizard and a tired panther in a cage.
I did know that we don’t eat meat and BBQ technically means meat. I did know that probably aside from meat, there are going to be a million other things we are not interested in. But I was trying…
We walked in, we made an effort to walk around, then we left and went to the mall {Zoo was debated too but it was too late in the day.}
That is where Lexi let my hand go and started running around the racks of clothing. On her own. {Â To terrify me obviously.}Â Really fast. While clapping, squealing and talking. All at the same time. There might or might not have been head shakes too. Â Head shakes and a newly walking (read: running) toddler = NO BUENO!
Then she “begged” to go to the madhouse of a mall playground with big fat boys running around and knocking each other down. She tried to copy them. Mommy didn’t let her. I followed her insane walking speed at the edges of the playground and then promptly removed her from the “warzone”.
I did, however, get her first picture of looking like a complete toddler (close up below!)
Lexi is wearing
Shoes: PediPeds
Dress: Little Shrimp
Tights: Zulily
Elena is wearing:
Top: NY &Â Company
Skirt: BCBG via MyHabit
Super comfy flats: Â Bellsox via MyHabit
{one of the things that went with the baby was accessorizing. You won’t see any jewelry on me for a while)
Oh you all are so cute!!!! 🙂
My son is just 3 weeks younger than Lexi and I think it has to do with him being my second, but he just seems so much younger and more “babyish” than Lexi! He’s still not walking (which I’m totally okay with!) I’m sure once he’s walking he’ll seem like a big boy. She’s just so grown up. Can’t believe she’ll be one soon!!
love it! i had to cut the jewelry out around this age for a while too. ps- did your mom move to the us??
The part about the big boys made me laugh, because it is so true!! Once my daughter turned 2, I allowed her to play with the “big kids” on the playground…and man, she learned fast how to move out of the way, watch her step/head, and play nicely, and now is resilient, strong, and can hold her own against boys three times her age! Now my only issue is getting her to understand that, no, her 7-month-old sister cannot play on the playground with her yet!
Hi Elena,
This has nothing to do with your hilarious post or adorable pictures, but, could you tell me where you bought the bean bag chair in Lexie’s room? I absolutely love it. 🙂
RH Kids. 🙂
love her dress! how do you manage to wear mini skirts while chasing a toddler around? i’d be afraid of showing the big fat boys my goods.
The skirt is actually pretty long ( i wouldn’t call it a mini). I just stay mindful of it and not bend too far, but I did stop wearing actual minis , because it’s just not possible with a baby. {It might look shorter than it really is, because i am tall so I have more leg real estate to cover. In high school my home room teacher always bitched at me for supposedly ” hemming my uniform skirt” because it looked shorter than on other girls to the point that my mom had to tell her off, because (of course) it was the same length as others lol)
I can’t believe how great a walker Lexi is! My daughter is a few days younger than Lexi, and she doesn’t seem to show any interest in walking just yet. She’s a super fast crawler and quite a talker, but walking? I think she could take it or leave it! And I feel your pain on the the crazy bedtime and naptime inconsistencies. We cosleep too, and sometimes she’s just too excited about being near us to fall asleep. And when she’s working on developmental stuff, like you said, it’s even more crazy! I couldn’t figure out why she kept waking up last week, and it turned out it was because she was about to have a vocabulary explosion. 8 new words in 2 days! Hurray for amazing, walking and talking almost one year olds!!
I know, it is absolutely amazing how babies work on different things. I personally would rather have her talking than walking, but walking makes her happy so I am good with that 🙂
8 new words in 2 days- that is crazy!! As in crazy awesome! What are they?
My girl’s new words: dog, waffle (waffa), bag, baby, milk, mug, cookie (cooka), cab. And today’s latest word: cake, ’cause we’ve been talking a ton about her birthday!
Bag, mug and cab crack me up :))))
I find it so cool that you can tell what the family is like and sometimes where they live (cab) by baby’s first words.
I can imagine lexis next words will be book, cat, dog, grandma, eat, ball, teddy bear. (All in Russian though)
I expect her to take a while to say them, cuz bilinguals take a bit longer to talk.
I’d read that about bilingual kids. L
Your mom looks every bit as stylish as the two of you! I love how you have matching shoes 🙂
Well, thank you! I will be sure to pass that onto her :))))
First off, Alexis is the cutest baby ever. She definitely looks like you, she just has her father’s eyes.
I wanted to ask, do you have any tips for shopping on Zulily and MyHabit. I go on there every now and then but on those days the inventory is just so trashy and cheap. Do you call dibs on all the cute stuff so no one else can have it?
You have the cutest family ever!
Zulily does have a lot of crap especially on blow out days. I only shop for organic sales on zulily and companies I already know and love when they get featured there.
MyHabit is a different story though. Most (not all) of their stuff is high quality, expensive childrenswear. I still have my favorite companies there that I wait for sales on. When they do have their 70-80% off blowouts, you can get some really expensive brands for reasonable amounts (like NUNUNU BABY i first bought there) but they go literally within SECONDS of the sale going live.
In general it’s a big game of wait and see. But for me, it beats buying the stuff you see on ever other child ( not that I don’t have that too). Hope this help! 🙂
Oh, and Lexi couldn’t be any more precious. Love her adorable expressions!
Love the picture on the top right, Lexi looks so grown up and sophisticated there!
I know you get your share of negative comments, and even criticism disguised as compliments- but one thing that is always obvious is just how much you love your girl. She is absolutely precious, and your love for her shines through! That’s really all that matters.
