BeforeΒ I launch into my week 10 update, I’d like to say that I will eventually come back with normal non-pregnancy related posts. And while this is primarily a conception/pregnancy/baby blog, it is also my personal blog. However, right now all IΒ Β (barely) have the energy for is my weekly updates here and Selfie Saturdays over my photography blog. I’m really looking forward to that blast of energy in the 2nd trimester and I will be hopefully posting more than once a week.
___________________________________________________________
I’m very excited to be starting my 11th week.
Whatever was happening with my insides has finally settled down. I’m still bloated, but the extreme belly is finally gone. It seems my uterus moved out of my pelvis a few weeks earlier than it was supposed to. And that movement is what was causing the mess of Β my bulging belly and feeling stuffed all the time. Now that my intestines settled back down, all I am left with is bloat and a little belly. Something tells me that with everything happening a few weeks earlier,Β we will see an actual bump sooner rather than later. Oh and my belly button is getting bigger. It’s kind of freaky, because I’ve always had a very small belly button and now it’s an actual hole I stick my finger into LOL
Also turns out my next appointment isn’t going to be the NT scan like I thought, but just an OB appointment, and THEN they’ll schedule a 12 week NT ultrasound scan after it. Makes sense now, because I was wondering why they scheduled my 12th week NT scan at 11weeks 1 day.
Also, question: is it possible to keep some semblance of a waist in pregnancy? I mean the belly is supposed to grow outwards, not in width, right? So I’d imagine some waist is possible. I don’t like becoming square!Β π
STATS:
How far along:Β 10 weeks.
How big is baby: It’s a PRUNE.
What’s the baby up to:
Your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.
He’s swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs β including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) β are in place and starting to function, though they’ll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy. If you could take a peek inside your womb, you’d spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.
In other developments: Your baby’s limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby’s forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he’s about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size β to nearly 3 inches.
Total weight gain: Seems I am holding steady at 2 pounds, which exactly the weight of the baby+uterus+growing boobies+increased blood volume according to sources. I have figured out my nutrition for now. The feeling of being always full has almost disappeared, so I was able to add a few key components to make sure I meet my calorie goal: milk smoothies with banana, strawberries or mango and homemade guacomoly on whole grain bread ( I oweΒ a thanks for the ideas to 2 of my readers). This, in addition to one “bad” food I’ll talk about in the cravings section, have gotten me where I need to beΒ without much suffering.
Maternity clothes: Nope, but I do have to pick out things that used to be super loose on me. Like shorts that would constantly fall off before π
Sleep: With the nightly calming oilΒ massage from hubby and Positive pregnancy app, plus adjusting my sleep positions, I have been doing pretty good.
Best moment of the week: Having 1 day where I had almost no nausea at all- YAY!
Food cravings: As before, my favorite cucumber-tomato salad, any fruits. And this week after talking to a friend (thank you, Michelle lol), I suddenly got a craving for breaded mozzarella sticks. I held out for a while not giving into it, but then thought: “Hell, I am not getting as many calories as I’d like to. Adding some natural but junky food for calorie and enjoyment’s sake won’t hurt!”. So I instructed hubby to buy the most natural best looking (ingredient wise) mozzarella sticks he can find. I’ve been eating a few of them daily.
Food aversions: My tastes and aversions literally change daily. I can’t stand ice cream now, or anything sweet for that matter ( again!), except for fruit and juices of course. Still can’t eat fish, or romaine or nuts. Really looking forward when I can make romaine salads again.
Symptoms:
Nausea: I can’t get a handle on it. It’s there, sort of. I don’t feel the greatest, but I can’t tell where it’s more of a fullness feeling or maybe heartburn making it worse. But again, it’s improving which is a good sign.
Other: Sore boobies, an unpleasantly full stomach after eating even a small meal, heartburn after my Omega 3 pills and certain foods,Β breakouts, some heightened emotions.
New: Headaches! Hello increased blood volume and thank you for ensuring I need head massages daily LOL
Gender:Have no idea. I keep having a feeling it’s a boy. But i’m not superstitious, so I don’t ascribe anything to that.
What Iβm looking forward to: Next week’s appointment.
Next appt: July 8th.
so exciting! with my first pregnancy (and this one so far), ALL I wanted to eat was fruit. it’s funny the things you want (or don’t want) when you’re pregnant!
Same thing with me. I can just spend the whole time eating fruits and nothing else.
I was just wondering how you know your uterus moved out of your pelvis earlier than anticipated? Did the doctor tell you that? I don’t mean to sound rude, I just didn’t know how you’d figure out something like that.
Of course I don’t know for sure, but based on what was happening with my intestines and belly last week and how it feels this week, plus comparing the baby’s heartbeat and placental
Location on Doppler, it’s a lot higher than it was. I will know for sure next week at my appointment. Otherwise it’s just a hunch I have based on how my belly feels.
Oh and I stopped running to the bathroom every 10 minutes, that was another clue (besides some cramping)
Unfortunately, it is pretty much impossible to keep a waistline during pregnancy. Your hips shift A LOT and everything widens up. I am 5’3 and 105lbs, typically a size 0-2. During pregnancy if I wanted to wear “regular” jeans, I had to buy up in size to get them to close around my hips (not my belly since my jeans are low rise). In order to get them to close around my hips I had to be in about a size 10. You waist will expand, and so will your hips. It is inevitable. lol
Well, that’s scary π lol How does it change once you’ve given birth, when you’ve lost all the baby weight?
Good for you! At least the bloted-ness went down:) and the head aches! I forgot about those! I had to keep a bottle of tylanol in my purse at all times just incase:)
OMG- thank God for that- I was feeling like I’m 20 weeks along, not just 10.
Considering I felt my daughter’s hiccups in the exit door, its suffice to say I carried low {even though there was another baby in there with her;) }
Annnyway, I had a waist and wore belts around them my whole pregnancy. It was weird, ahah. I hated maternity clothes because they hid the waist I actually had. I bought all my stuff at Forever 21 and larger sizes at “normal” stores. π
Amanda, you’re hilarious: “I felt my daughterβs hiccups in the exit door” – I wonder what that feels like!
I’m gonna guess that being pregnant at the end-ish of summer in Florida will have its pros and cons but you seriously have got to be the sexiest little momma I have ever seen! Can I say again that I am so stoked for you?! I definitely am! π
Aaaaawww, that’s too sweet, Kayla! Btw, from what i’ve been told this is the perfect time. I will be at my biggest when it starts cooling off and the baby comes when it’s still nice and fresh! So we’ll be able to take walks!
You look really good on the pic Helloooondrik π
Omg I cannot believe you – the ceasar salad lover – cannot eat romain lettuce o_O
Oh thank you! It’s hard to look at myself like this and think I look good. i feel I look “Thick” π lol
And I know, I am totally shocked re: romaine. I never thought it would be my aversion- so weird!
Congrats. I totally missed you were pregnant. Very exciting.
Hahahah! No prob! Thanks a lot! π
They started going back right away. I was back in some of my larger pre pregnancy jeans within a month or so, and around 7 months I was back in my smallest pair. This was with eating right/working out frequently since 6 weeks PP. My body is different now though and I have heard A LOT of women say this. It is more womanly and curvy now. My hips will never be as small as they were pre pregnancy though, my bone structure is just different now. It isn’t a bad thing, just different.
Besides it being curvier and more womanly, which is a good thing on skinny girl with a boyish figure, were there any changes that weren’t so desireable?
My stomach is still not as flat as it once was despite my best efforts, and I have put forth A LOT of effort. I still have a little pooch that I just can’t get rid of. Other than that none of that changes were all that bad!
Oh! Was it perfect before pregnancy? Like, my stomach has always been very easy to maintain. I don’t gain weight in my stomach AT ALL ( i mean didn’t), it all goes to my legs. Are you saying that’s going to change? π
Typically, when I’m not pregnant, I have I relatively small waist (which widens out closer to my hips). Surprisingly during my last pregnancy I managed to keep a bit of a waist till the end. It definitely widened and it was hard for ME to see it from the front, but I totally remember my husband commenting on how it was still there π
My waist (and weight) eventually returned to normal post-pregnancy. As for my hips, they definitely widened during pregnancy (surprisingly painful?!), they absolutely got smaller afterwards, but honestly they never went totally back. I still fit back into my size 4’s, they fit perfectly everywhere except a bit more snug right over my hip bones.
Whew! No size change! Honestly I am ok with slightly larger hips, because right now they’re a bit boyish.
Hi. I’m normally a lurker, but I wanted to share something. I’ve heard that how you carry a baby indicates it’s gender. So far, anecdotally, it seems spot on. If you carry wide, it’s a girl. If you carry out front, it’s a boy. Aside from the extra weight gain I experienced, from behind you couldn’t tell I was pregnant… except by my walk. Another friend who has 3 boys carried the same way. So if you’re losing your waist already… maybe it’s a girl??? π
Of course while I don’t believe in any superstitions or old wives tales, it would make me very happy if it is a girl. And so far based on everyone comments, it seems the “signs” point to that π
And yes, I am ALREADY losing my waist…or at least it seems to me that I am, I’ll have to ask hubby to look at me from the back.
You are so adorable! Isn’t it so exciting seeing the body change for the baby? I loved getting a belly while pregnant. Now I which my belly would just go back to it’s hotself! haha Okay a few things I want to say from my own personal experience. 1. Usually, depending on the heart rate will determine whether it’s a boy or girl. I had a girl, and E’s heart beat was always around 164ish. 2. I as well was told that people couldn’t notice I was pregnant from behind. My husband always told me that. 3. I always craved fruity and sweet things in the 1st trimester. I couldn’t eat anything but fruity/sweet stuff. 4. I also have heard that most women pregnant with males will crave more heavy foods such as meat, breads etc. 5. Also with boys, morning sickness seems to be famous in the evening.
Now, of course, every woman has a different experience than everyone else. But these are things I either experienced or heard from other friends. One last thing as far as advice, if you are experiencing any heartburn, let me give you the best tip ever. TUMS. Get the Smoothies berry flavored. Exactly that. Nothing else. They will be your life savor. Seriously! I’d have to pop a few every night and sometimes during the day. They taste delicious and work almost immediately!
